ECC UDIMM (unbuffered)
Entry servers built on Intel Xeon E and AMD EPYC 4004 take unbuffered ECC DIMMs, the same physical format as desktop memory but with an extra chip for error correction. They top out at four slots and modest capacities, which is fine for a domain controller, a file server or a small line-of-business application.
The most common mistake is buying desktop non-ECC memory because it looks identical. The server will post with it in some cases and then quietly lose the error correction you paid for.
