Field notes
2nd Gen CPUs need BIOS 3.0 or later, and older units shipped with the ADMIN/ADMIN default password rather than the unique sticker. Typical failures are PSUs and the backplane SAS cables working loose, plus BMC firmware that has to be stepped through intermediate versions. Firmware via BMC web UI, SUM or the IPMICFG tools; BIOS via BMC needs the OOB license. ESXi 7 is the safe hypervisor; ESXi 8 works but is not certified for all SKUs.

Keep it or replace it?
